Event
Event (Medicine)
Event (/ɪˈvɛnt/), in the context of medicine, refers to a significant occurrence or happening that is identifiable and often has a clear start and end point. The term is derived from the Latin word "eventus", meaning "outcome" or "result".
An event can be a wide range of occurrences, from a patient experiencing a symptom or a side effect, to a medical procedure being performed, or a change in a patient's health status.
Types of Events
There are several types of events in medicine, including:
- Adverse Event: An unexpected medical problem that happens during treatment with a drug or other therapy. Adverse events do not necessarily have a causal relationship with the treatment.
- Clinical Event: A change in a patient's health status that is observed or reported during a clinical study.
- Medical Event: A significant occurrence relating to a patient's health or medical treatment, such as a surgery or a change in medication.
