Employee Assistance Program

Employee Assistance Program (EAP) /ɪmˈplɔɪ.iː əˈsɪs.təns prəʊˈgræm/ is a work-based intervention program designed to identify and assist employees in resolving personal problems that may be adversely affecting their performance at work, such as marital, financial or emotional problems; family issues; or substance or alcohol abuse.

Etymology

The term "Employee Assistance Program" originated in the United States in the 1940s. It was initially a program to help employees struggling with alcohol problems. Over time, the program expanded to include other issues that could affect an employee's work performance.
