Elwyn is a small, unincorporated community located in Middletown Township, Delaware County, in the United States. It is best known for being the home of the historic Elwyn Institute, a facility dedicated to the care and education of individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities.

History

The community of Elwyn was named after Dr. Alfred L. Elwyn, a prominent physician and philanthropist who was instrumental in the establishment of the Elwyn Institute. The institute was founded in 1852 as the "Pennsylvania Training School for Feeble-Minded Children" and was one of the first of its kind in the United States.

Geography

Elwyn is situated in southeastern Pennsylvania, approximately 15 miles west of Philadelphia. It is part of the Philadelphia metropolitan area and is accessible via the Media/Elwyn Line of the SEPTA regional rail system.
