Els Borst

Els Borst (pronounced: [ɛls bɔrst]) was a Dutch politician and medical ethicist. She was a member of the Democrats 66 (D66) party and served as Minister of Health, Welfare and Sport from 1994 to 2002.

Etymology

The name "Els" is a common Dutch female name, short for Elisabeth. "Borst" is a Dutch surname that means "chest". The etymology of these names is not directly related to her career or contributions.

Career

Borst started her career as a medical doctor, specializing in immunohaematology. She later became a professor of medical ethics at the University of Amsterdam.
