Elizabeth Hillman (pronounced: E-liz-a-beth Hill-man) is a renowned biomedical engineer and neuroscientist known for her significant contributions to the field of medical imaging and neuroscience.

Etymology

The name 'Elizabeth' is of Hebrew origin, derived from the Hebrew name 'Elisheva' which means 'God is my oath'. The surname 'Hillman' is of English origin and is an occupational name for a servant (man) who worked on a hill, farm or manor.

Biography

Elizabeth Hillman was born and raised in the United Kingdom. She completed her undergraduate studies in Physics and PhD in Medical Physics and Bioengineering from the University College London. She is currently a professor at Columbia University in the departments of Biomedical Engineering and Radiology.

Hillman's research primarily focuses on developing new imaging technologies to study the brain. She is the inventor of the Swept Confocally Aligned Planar Excitation (SCAPE) microscopy, a revolutionary technique that allows for high-speed, 3D imaging of living organisms.
