Elgin is a city located in the northern part of the United States, specifically in the state of Illinois. It is one of the largest cities in Illinois, known for its historic architecture, diverse community, and vibrant arts scene.

Elgin was founded in 1835 by the Gifford brothers, who were attracted by the Fox River. The city was named after the Scottish hymn "The Song of Elgin". In the late 19th and early 20th centuries, Elgin became known for its watchmaking industry, which was one of the largest in the country.
