Electromagnetic therapy
Electromagnetic Therapy
Electromagnetic therapy (pronunciation: /ɪˌlɛktrəʊmæɡˈnɛtɪk θɛrəpi/), also known as Magnet therapy or Magnetic field therapy, is a type of alternative medicine that uses electromagnetic fields in an attempt to improve health or promote healing.
Etymology
The term "electromagnetic" is derived from the Greek words "electron" meaning amber (from which the concept of electricity originates) and "magnetis lithos" meaning Magnesian stone, a type of iron ore. The term "therapy" comes from the Greek "therapeia" meaning healing treatment.
Description
Electromagnetic therapy involves the use of electromagnetic fields to treat various health conditions. These fields can be static (as in Magnet therapy) or changing (as in Pulsed electromagnetic field therapy). The therapy is based on the belief that an imbalance in the body's electromagnetic field can cause illness and that by re-balancing this field, health can be restored.
