Electrochemical Random Access Memory (ECRAM) is a type of non-volatile memory technology that utilizes electrochemical principles to store data. Unlike traditional RAM technologies, such as Dynamic Random-Access Memory (DRAM) or Static Random-Access Memory (SRAM), which rely on electric charges to store information, ECRAM uses electrochemical reactions to achieve data storage. ECRAM technology is based on the use of an electrochemical cell, where data storage is achieved through the reversible modification of the electrical resistance of the cell's material. This modification is induced by an electrochemical reaction, typically involving the movement of ions within the material. The state of the material (high resistance or low resistance) represents the stored data (bits "0" and "1").
Working Principle[edit]
The core principle behind ECRAM involves the application of a voltage across an electrochemical cell to induce a change in its resistance. This change is facilitated by the movement of ions within the electrolyte, altering the material's structure and, consequently, its electrical properties. The process can be reversed, allowing the cell to return to its original state, thereby enabling data to be rewritten.
