Electricity (/ɪˌlɛkˈtrɪsɪti/) is the set of physical phenomena associated with the presence and motion of matter that has a property of electric charge.
Etymology
The word "electricity" is derived from the New Latin electricus, "of amber". Electricus was the term for "amber effect", that is, the attraction of certain materials when rubbed against amber, a natural resin.
