Elastic Bandage

An Elastic Bandage (pronunciation: /ɪˈlæstɪk ˈbændɪdʒ/), also known as a compression bandage, is a type of bandage that is stretchable and used to create localized pressure.

Etymology

The term "Elastic Bandage" is derived from the word 'elastic' which comes from the Greek word 'elastos' meaning 'ductile, flexible', and 'bandage' which is from the French word 'bander', which means 'to bind'.

Usage

Elastic bandages are commonly used to treat muscle sprains and strains by reducing the flow of blood to a particular area by the application of even stable pressure which can limit swelling in the injured area. They are also used to improve venous return.

Types

There are several types of elastic bandages, with the most common types being the Ace bandage, the Elastic Adhesive Bandage, and the Cohesive Bandage.
