EEF1G
EEF1G is a gene that encodes a protein known as elongation factor 1-gamma. This protein is a subunit of the elongation factor-1 complex, which plays a crucial role in protein synthesis. The EEF1G gene is located on chromosome chromosome 7 in humans.
Function
The EEF1G protein is involved in the delivery of aminoacyl-tRNAs to the ribosome during translation. It helps in the elongation phase of protein synthesis by facilitating the binding of aminoacyl-tRNAs to the ribosome.
Structure
The EEF1G gene consists of several exons that encode different domains of the elongation factor 1-gamma protein. These domains are essential for the protein's function in translation.
Clinical Significance
Mutations in the EEF1G gene have been associated with certain genetic disorders that affect protein synthesis. These mutations can lead to abnormalities in cellular processes and contribute to disease development.
Interactions
The EEF1G protein interacts with other components of the elongation factor-1 complex, such as EEF1A and EEF1B. These interactions are crucial for the proper functioning of the translation machinery.
