Doctor Sivana
Fictional character appearing in DC Comics
Doctor Thaddeus Bodog Sivana is a fictional character and a supervillain appearing in American comic books published by DC Comics. He is primarily an enemy of Captain Marvel, now known as Shazam, and is considered one of his greatest foes. Doctor Sivana was created by Bill Parker and C. C. Beck, and he first appeared in Whiz Comics #2 in February 1940.
Character biography
Doctor Sivana is depicted as a brilliant but mad scientist who uses his intellect and inventions to pursue his goals, often clashing with Shazam. His full name is Thaddeus Bodog Sivana, and he is characterized by his bald head, thick glasses, and diminutive stature. Despite his small size, Sivana's genius and malevolence make him a formidable adversary.
Sivana's backstory has been expanded over the years. Originally, he was a respected scientist who became disillusioned with the scientific community and society after his revolutionary ideas were rejected. He turned to a life of crime to prove his genius and exact revenge on those who doubted him. In some versions of his origin, Sivana is depicted as having a family, including his children Georgia, Magnificus, Thaddeus Jr., and Beautia.
Powers and abilities
Doctor Sivana does not possess any superhuman abilities, but his genius-level intellect and scientific prowess make him a dangerous opponent. He is a master inventor and has created numerous advanced devices and weapons, including death rays, mind-control machines, and various other gadgets. His inventions often give him an edge in his battles against Shazam and other heroes.
In other media
Doctor Sivana has appeared in various media adaptations of the Shazam franchise, including animated television series, films, and video games. Notably, he was portrayed by actor Mark Strong in the 2019 film Shazam!.
