Disney+ Hotstar
Disney+ Hotstar is an Indian subscription video on-demand streaming service owned by The Walt Disney Company. It is operated by Disney Media and Entertainment Distribution, a division of The Walt Disney Company. The service was initially launched as Hotstar in February 2015 by Star India. Following the acquisition of Star India by Disney, the service was rebranded as Disney+ Hotstar in April 2020.
History
Disney+ Hotstar was originally launched as Hotstar by Star India in February 2015. The service quickly gained popularity due to its extensive library of Indian television shows, movies, and live sports content. In 2019, The Walt Disney Company acquired 21st Century Fox, which included Star India. As a result, Hotstar was integrated with Disney's streaming service, Disney+, and rebranded as Disney+ Hotstar in April 2020.
