Dionysus (/daɪ.əˈnaɪsəs/; Greek: Διόνυσος) is the god of the grape-harvest, winemaking and wine, of fertility, ritual madness, religious ecstasy, and theatre in ancient Greek mythology.

Etymology

The name Dionysus is of ancient Greek origin, and it means "God of Wine and Revelry". The name is derived from the words "Dios" (Διός), meaning "of Zeus", and "Nysa" (Νῦσα), a mythical mountain.
