Digital

Digital (/dɪdʒɪtəl/) is a term that originates from the Latin word digitus, meaning "finger, toe". In the context of technology and medicine, it refers to the use of discrete values, often represented by binary numbers, to store and manipulate information.

Overview

In the medical field, digital technology has revolutionized the way healthcare is delivered, with advancements in Digital Imaging, Electronic Health Records, Telemedicine, and Digital Pathology among others.

Digital Imaging

Digital Imaging is a process where an image is digitally captured and processed. In medicine, it is used in various diagnostic procedures such as Computed Tomography (CT) scans, Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI), and Digital X-ray.

Electronic Health Records

Electronic Health Records (EHRs) are digital versions of patients' paper charts. They contain the medical and treatment history of the patients in one practice and are designed to go beyond standard clinical data to provide a broader view of a patient's care.

Telemedicine

Telemedicine is the use of digital information and communication technologies, like computers and mobile devices, to access health care services remotely and manage health care. These might be technologies you use from home or that your doctor uses to improve or support health care services.

Digital Pathology

Digital Pathology is an image-based information environment enabled by computer technology that allows for the management of information generated from a digital slide. It is enabled in part by virtual microscopy, which is a method of digitizing histopathology slides for viewing on a computer screen.
