Destine was formed in 2006 by Robin van Loenen (vocals, guitar) and Hubrecht Eversdijk (guitar). The band quickly gained a following in the local music scene and released their debut EP, A Dozen Dreams, in 2006. The EP was well-received and helped the band secure a record deal with Sony Music.
In 2009, Destine released their debut album, Lightspeed, which included the hit single "Stars". The album was produced by James Paul Wisner, who has worked with bands such as Paramore and New Found Glory. Lightspeed received positive reviews and helped the band gain international recognition.
