Desh Bandhu Gupta was an Indian entrepreneur and the founder of Lupin Limited, one of the largest pharmaceutical companies in India. Born on February 8, 1938, in Rajgarh, Alwar, Rajasthan, Gupta was a visionary leader who played a pivotal role in the growth of the Indian pharmaceutical industry.
Early Life and Education[edit]
Desh Bandhu Gupta was born into a modest family in Rajasthan. He pursued his early education in his hometown before moving to Mumbai to further his studies. Gupta earned a master's degree in chemistry from the prestigious Birla Institute of Technology and Science, Pilani.
Career[edit]
Gupta began his career as an associate professor at the Birla Institute of Technology and Science, Pilani. However, his entrepreneurial spirit led him to establish Lupin Limited in 1968 with a vision to provide affordable and quality medicines to the masses. Under his leadership, Lupin grew from a small company to a global pharmaceutical giant.

Lupin Limited, founded by Gupta, is renowned for its focus on tuberculosis treatment and has expanded its portfolio to include a wide range of therapeutic areas. The company has a significant presence in over 100 countries and is known for its research and development capabilities.
