Denturist

A Denturist (/dɛnˈtʊərɪst/), also known as a Dental Prosthetist in some regions, is a specialized healthcare professional who is trained to provide comprehensive oral health care by designing, constructing, fitting and maintaining removable oral appliances and prostheses.

Etymology

The term "Denturist" is derived from the Latin word "dens", meaning "tooth", and the suffix "-ist", which is used to denote a specialist in a particular field.

Role and Responsibilities

Denturists work directly with patients and can see patients without referrals from other health professionals. They are trained to diagnose and treat oral health issues related to missing teeth and oral tissues. Denturists provide services such as taking impressions of the oral cavity, designing and constructing removable oral appliances, fitting and adjusting appliances, and providing follow-up care and maintenance.

Denturists work in a variety of settings, including private practices, hospitals, and long-term care facilities. They often collaborate with other dental professionals, such as Dentists and Dental Hygienists, to provide comprehensive oral health care.
