Cyberstalking
Cyberstalking (pronunciation: /ˈsaɪbərˌstɔːkɪŋ/) is the use of the Internet or other electronic means to stalk or harass an individual, group, or organization. It may include false accusations, defamation, slander and libel. It may also include monitoring, identity theft, threats, vandalism, solicitation for sex, or gathering information that may be used to threaten, embarrass or harass.
Etymology
The term "cyberstalking" is derived from the words "cyber", relating to or characteristic of the culture of computers, information technology, and virtual reality, and "stalking", the act of pursuing or approaching stealthily. The term was first used in the late 1990s, as the internet became more prevalent in everyday life.
