Crystal Meth Anonymous
Crystal Meth Anonymous (CMA) is a 12-step program for individuals seeking recovery from crystal methamphetamine addiction. It is a fellowship of people who share their experience, strength, and hope with each other, so they may solve their common problem and help others to recover from addiction to crystal meth. The only requirement for membership is a desire to stop using crystal meth.
History
Crystal Meth Anonymous was officially established in Los Angeles, California in 1994. The organization was formed in response to the growing number of individuals struggling with crystal meth addiction and the lack of resources specifically tailored to this group.
Program
The CMA program is based on the Twelve Steps and Twelve Traditions of Alcoholics Anonymous. The Twelve Steps are a set of guiding principles, spiritual in nature, which if practiced as a way of life, can expel the obsession to use drugs and enable the sufferer to become happily and usefully whole. The Twelve Traditions are the guidelines by which the group and its members maintain their course and protect the recovery program from outside influences.
Meetings
CMA meetings are held in various locations around the world. These meetings provide an environment in which members can share their experiences and gain support from others in recovery. Meetings can be open (anyone can attend) or closed (only those with a desire to stop using crystal meth can attend).
Effectiveness
While there is limited scientific research on the effectiveness of Crystal Meth Anonymous, anecdotal evidence suggests that many individuals have found recovery through the program. As with all 12-step programs, the effectiveness can vary greatly depending on the individual's level of commitment and willingness to change.
