Cox's Bazar Medical College (pronunciation: Cox's Bazar Medical College) is a government medical college in Cox's Bazar, Bangladesh, and is affiliated with the University of Chittagong.
Etymology
The name "Cox's Bazar" is derived from Captain Hiram Cox, an officer of the British East India Company. The "Bazar" part of the name comes from the Bengali language, meaning market. The term "Medical College" is a standard term used worldwide to denote institutions that provide medical education.
History
Cox's Bazar Medical College was established in 2008. It is one of the 36 government-funded medical colleges in Bangladesh. The college offers a five-year course of study, leading to a Bachelor of Medicine, Bachelor of Surgery (MBBS) degree. A one-year internship after graduation is compulsory for all graduates. The degree is recognised by the Bangladesh Medical and Dental Council.
