Costa Coffee
Costa Coffee is a British coffeehouse chain that is a subsidiary of The Coca-Cola Company. Founded in London in 1971 by Sergio and Bruno Costa, it has grown to become one of the largest coffeehouse chains in the world. Costa Coffee is renowned for its signature blend of coffee, which is crafted from a unique mix of Arabica and Robusta beans.
History[edit]

The Costa brothers, Sergio and Bruno, initially started their business as a wholesale operation supplying roasted coffee to caterers and specialist Italian coffee shops. In 1978, they opened their first retail outlet in Vauxhall Bridge Road, London. The brand quickly gained popularity for its high-quality coffee and inviting atmosphere.
In 1995, Costa Coffee was acquired by Whitbread, a British multinational hotel and restaurant company, which helped expand the brand significantly. Under Whitbread's ownership, Costa Coffee grew rapidly, opening stores across the United Kingdom and internationally.
In 2018, The Coca-Cola Company purchased Costa Coffee from Whitbread for £3.9 billion, marking a significant expansion into the global coffee market for the beverage giant.
Operations[edit]
Costa Coffee operates over 3,800 stores worldwide, with a strong presence in the UK, Europe, Asia, and the Middle East. The company also operates a self-service coffee machine business, Costa Express, which provides convenient access to Costa's coffee in locations such as petrol stations and convenience stores.
The brand is known for its commitment to sustainability and ethical sourcing. Costa Coffee sources its coffee beans from Rainforest Alliance Certified farms, ensuring that its coffee is produced in a way that supports environmental, social, and economic sustainability.
Products[edit]

Costa Coffee offers a wide range of coffee beverages, including its signature espresso, cappuccino, latte, and flat white. The company also provides a selection of teas, hot chocolates, and cold drinks. In addition to beverages, Costa Coffee serves a variety of food items, such as pastries, sandwiches, and cakes.
The brand is particularly known for its Mocha Italia blend, a carefully crafted mix of Arabica and Robusta beans that provides a rich and smooth flavor profile. This blend is used in all Costa Coffee espresso-based drinks.
Store Design and Atmosphere[edit]

Costa Coffee stores are designed to provide a warm and welcoming environment for customers. The interiors often feature comfortable seating, contemporary decor, and a relaxed atmosphere, making them popular spots for socializing, working, or simply enjoying a coffee break.
The company places a strong emphasis on customer service, training its baristas to deliver high-quality coffee and a friendly experience.
International Presence[edit]

Costa Coffee has expanded its presence internationally, with stores in over 30 countries. The brand has adapted its offerings to suit local tastes and preferences while maintaining its core values and quality standards.
In recent years, Costa Coffee has focused on expanding in emerging markets, particularly in Asia and the Middle East, where the demand for premium coffee is growing rapidly.
