Contact (medical term)

Contact (/kɒntækt/), from the Latin contactus, meaning "touching", is a term used in various fields of medicine to denote the interaction or communication between two or more entities, such as cells, tissues, or organisms.

Definition

In medicine, contact often refers to the transmission of diseases or conditions from one individual to another through direct or indirect interaction. This can occur through various means, such as physical touch, airborne particles, or shared objects.

Types of Contact

There are two main types of contact in medical context: Direct Contact and Indirect Contact.

Direct Contact

Direct contact refers to the transmission of diseases or conditions through physical touch or close proximity between individuals. This can occur through activities such as kissing, sexual intercourse, or skin-to-skin contact.

Indirect Contact

Indirect contact refers to the transmission of diseases or conditions through shared objects or surfaces, or through airborne particles. This can occur when an individual touches a contaminated object or surface, or inhales airborne particles carrying infectious agents.
