Short definitioncongenital neutropenia - (pronounced) (kon-JEH-nih-tul noo-troh-PEE-nee-uh) An inherited condition in which the number of neutrophils (a type of white blood cell important in fighting infection) is below normal. Infants with this condition get infections caused by bacteria and are at increased risk of acute myeloid leukemia (AML) or myelodysplasia (a bone marrow disease).
