Computer Vision Syndrome

Computer Vision Syndrome (CVS), also known as Digital Eye Strain, is a condition resulting from focusing the eyes on a computer or other display device for protracted, uninterrupted periods of time. Some symptoms of CVS include headaches, blurred vision, neck pain, fatigue, eye strain, dry eyes, irritated eyes, double vision, vertigo/dizziness, polyopia, and difficulty refocusing the eyes.

Etymology

The term "Computer Vision Syndrome" is made up of three words: "computer", "vision", and "syndrome". "Computer" comes from the Latin word "computare", which means "to calculate". "Vision" comes from the Latin word "visio", which means "sight". "Syndrome" comes from the Greek word "syndromē", which means "concurrence of symptoms, concourse of people".
