Psychology is the scientific study of the mind and behavior. Psychology includes the study of conscious and unconscious phenomena, as well as feelings and thought. It is an academic discipline of immense scope. Psychologists seek an understanding of the emergent properties of brains, and all the variety of phenomena linked to those emergent properties, joining this way the broader neuro-scientific group of researchers.

History of Psychology

The history of psychology as a scholarly study of the mind and behavior dates back to the Ancient Greece. There is also evidence of psychological thought in ancient Egypt. Psychology was largely incepted as a separate discipline during the 19th century, with early making contributions by great thinkers such as Sigmund Freud and Carl Jung.

Branches of Psychology

Psychology is a broad and diverse field that encompasses the study of human thought, behavior, development, personality, emotion, motivation, and more. As a result, some of the major subfields within psychology are Cognitive Psychology, Developmental Psychology, Social Psychology, Clinical Psychology, Neuropsychology, and Industrial-Organizational Psychology.

Methods in Psychology

Psychologists use a range of techniques to study the human mind and behavior, including Observation, Experimentation, and Case studies. They also use a variety of research methods, such as qualitative and quantitative research, and various forms of statistical analysis.

Applications of Psychology

Psychology has been applied to many areas of human activity, from issues concerning everyday life—such as family, education and employment—to treatment of mental health problems. Psychologists can work in a range of different settings, including universities, schools, businesses, government, and in private practice.
