Clearwater
Clearwater is a city located in Pinellas County, Florida, United States. It is the county seat of Pinellas County and is known for its sunny weather and gulf coast beaches. Clearwater is the smallest of the three principal cities in the Tampa Bay Area, which also includes Tampa and St. Petersburg.
History
Clearwater was originally home to the Tocobaga people before the arrival of European settlers. The city's modern history began in the 19th century, when the United States Army established Fort Harrison as an outpost during the Seminole Wars. The city was incorporated in 1891.
Geography
Clearwater is located on the west coast of Florida, on the Gulf of Mexico. It is bordered by Tampa Bay to the east and the Gulf of Mexico to the west. The city's geography is characterized by a series of barrier islands, the largest of which is Clearwater Beach.
Economy
Clearwater's economy is diverse, with sectors including tourism, healthcare, and information technology. The city is home to several major employers, including Tech Data, one of the world's largest distributors of IT products and services.
Culture
Clearwater is known for its vibrant arts and culture scene. The city is home to the Ruth Eckerd Hall, one of the top performing arts venues in the U.S., and the Clearwater Marine Aquarium, a non-profit organization dedicated to the rescue and rehabilitation of marine life.
Education
Clearwater is served by the Pinellas County Schools district, which operates several elementary, middle, and high schools in the city. The city is also home to St. Petersburg College, which has a campus in downtown Clearwater.
Transportation
Clearwater is served by a variety of transportation options, including the Pinellas Suncoast Transit Authority (PSTA), which provides bus service throughout the county. The city is also served by the St. Petersburg-Clearwater International Airport and is within close proximity to Tampa International Airport.
