Claud Adkins Hatcher (August 20, 1876 – December 31, 1933) was an American pharmacist and businessman best known for founding the Royal Crown Cola company.

Early Life

Claud A. Hatcher was born in Quitman, Georgia, on August 20, 1876. He pursued a career in pharmacy and became a licensed pharmacist.

Career

Hatcher initially worked in his family's grocery business in Columbus, Georgia. In 1905, he began formulating soft drinks in the basement of the family's grocery store. His first product was a ginger ale called "Royal Crown Ginger Ale."

Royal Crown Cola

In 1907, Hatcher founded the Union Bottling Works in Columbus, Georgia, which later became the Chero-Cola Company. The company underwent several name changes and rebrandings, eventually becoming known as Royal Crown Cola in 1934, a year after Hatcher's death.

Legacy

Claud A. Hatcher's contributions to the beverage industry have had a lasting impact. Royal Crown Cola became a significant competitor to other major soft drink brands and remains a well-known name in the industry.

Death

Claud A. Hatcher passed away on December 31, 1933, in Columbus, Georgia.
