City, University of London is a public research university located in London, United Kingdom. It was founded in 1894 as the Northampton Institute and became a university when The City University was created by royal charter in 1966. In 2016, it joined the University of London federation.
History
City, University of London was established in 1894 as the Northampton Institute, named after the Marquess of Northampton, who donated the land for the institution. The institute initially focused on providing education and training in technical subjects. In 1966, it was granted university status by royal charter and became known as The City University. In 2016, it joined the University of London, becoming City, University of London.
Campus
The main campus of City, University of London is located in the Islington area of central London. The university also has several other sites, including the Cass Business School in the City of London and the School of Health Sciences in Finsbury.
