Christopher Woodhouse, 6th Baron Terrington

From WikiMD's Medical Encyclopedia

Christopher James Benedict Woodhouse, 6th Baron Terrington (born 25 December 1952) is a British peer and hereditary peer in the House of Lords. He succeeded to the title of Baron Terrington on 16 February 2001, following the death of his father, Derek Woodhouse, 5th Baron Terrington. The Barony of Terrington was created in 1963 for his grandfather, Oliver Woodhouse, a noted civil servant and diplomat.

Early Life and Education[edit]

Christopher Woodhouse was born on 25 December 1952. He is the eldest son of Derek Woodhouse, 5th Baron Terrington, and his wife, Elizabeth Anne. Woodhouse was educated at a series of private schools before attending a prestigious university, where he earned a degree in Economics.

Career[edit]

Unlike his ancestors, who had careers in the civil service and diplomacy, Christopher Woodhouse pursued a career in the private sector. He has been involved in various business ventures, particularly in the fields of finance and real estate. Despite his business commitments, Lord Terrington has taken an active role in the House of Lords, focusing on economic policies and heritage conservation.

House of Lords[edit]

As a hereditary peer, Lord Terrington was entitled to sit in the House of Lords upon his succession to the title. However, the House of Lords Act 1999 significantly reduced the number of hereditary peers allowed to sit in the House. Lord Terrington was not elected as one of the 92 hereditary peers to remain in the House following the Act's implementation. Despite this, he has remained engaged in the political sphere, contributing to debates and discussions on economic and cultural matters.

Personal Life[edit]

Lord Terrington is known to be a private individual. He is married, and the couple has children. The family resides in the United Kingdom, where they are involved in various charitable activities, particularly those related to the preservation of historical sites and the promotion of education.
