Christopher Duntsch

Christopher Duntsch (pronunciation: /ˈkrɪstəfər ˈdʌntʃ/) is a former neurosurgeon who was dubbed "Dr. Death" for gross malpractice resulting in the death and maiming of several patients while working at hospitals in the Dallas-Fort Worth area.

Etymology

The name Christopher is of Greek origin, derived from the Greek name Χριστόφορος (Christophoros). The name means "bearing Christ", derived from Χριστός (Christos), meaning "anointed" or "Christ", and φέρειν (pherein), meaning "to bear" or "to carry". Duntsch is a surname of unknown origin.

Background

Christopher Duntsch was born in Montana, USA. He received his undergraduate degree from the University of Memphis, and later earned his MD and PhD from the University of Tennessee Health Science Center. He completed his residency in neurosurgery at the same institution, and a spine fellowship at the Minimally Invasive Spine Institute in Dallas.

Medical Career and Malpractice

Duntsch moved to the Dallas-Fort Worth area in 2010 and began working at several hospitals. However, his medical career was marked by numerous surgical complications, resulting in the death and serious injury of multiple patients. His medical license was eventually revoked by the Texas Medical Board in 2013 due to his gross malpractice.

Legal Proceedings and Imprisonment

In 2015, Duntsch was arrested and charged with five counts of aggravated assault causing serious bodily injury and one count of injury to an elderly person. In 2017, he was convicted and sentenced to life in prison.
