Christ
Christ
Christ (/kraɪst/; Ancient Greek: Χριστός, Christós, meaning 'anointed one') is a title often used to refer to Jesus of Nazareth in the New Testament of the Christian Bible. The term is also used as a translation of the Hebrew מָשִׁיחַ (Māšîaḥ), 'Messiah', and is used as a title for Jesus in the New Testament. Among Christians, 'Christ' is viewed as a name—one part of the name 'Jesus Christ'.
Etymology
The word Christ comes from the Greek word Χριστός (Christos), which is a translation of the Hebrew word מָשִׁיחַ (Māšîaḥ). In Judaism, this word is used to refer to the future Jewish king from the Davidic line, who will rule the Jewish people during the Messianic Age. The Greek translation Χριστός (Christos) is the source of the English word Christ.
