Chester County

Chester County is a county located in the southeastern part of the U.S. state of Pennsylvania. As of the 2020 United States Census, the population was 534,413, making it the seventh-most populous county in Pennsylvania. The county seat is West Chester.

History

Chester County was one of the three original Pennsylvania counties created by William Penn in 1682. It was named for Chester, England. The county was primarily settled by English Quakers, along with Irish and Welsh immigrants. Chester County has played a significant role in the history of Pennsylvania and the United States, particularly during the American Revolutionary War. The Battle of Brandywine and the Battle of Paoli both took place within the county.
