Charles McNider is a fictional character appearing in American comic books published by DC Comics. He is best known as the original Doctor Mid-Nite, a superhero and a member of the Justice Society of America.

Publication history

Charles McNider first appeared in All-American Comics #25 in April 1941, created by writer Charles Reizenstein and artist Stan Aschmeier. He was one of the earliest superheroes to debut during the Golden Age of Comic Books.

Fictional character biography

Charles McNider was a renowned surgeon who was blinded by a grenade blast while treating a witness to a mob hit. Despite his blindness, McNider discovered that he could see in complete darkness. Using this ability, he developed special goggles that allowed him to see in light and adopted the identity of Doctor Mid-Nite. He fought crime using blackout bombs, which created areas of darkness, and his ability to see in the dark gave him a significant advantage over his enemies.

Charles McNider possesses the unique ability to see in total darkness, which he discovered after his accident. He is also a skilled physician and surgeon, often using his medical knowledge to aid his allies.
