Ceprotin (pronounced: seh-PRO-tin) is a protein C concentrate used in the treatment of severe congenital Protein C deficiency. It is a purified, lyophilized, sterile human protein C.

Usage
Ceprotin is used in the treatment of purpura fulminans and coumarin-induced skin necrosis, conditions associated with severe congenital Protein C deficiency. It is administered intravenously.
Mechanism of Action
Ceprotin works by replacing the deficient protein C in patients with severe congenital Protein C deficiency. Protein C is a vitamin K-dependent serine protease that regulates blood coagulation by inactivating factors Va and VIIIa in the presence of calcium ions and phospholipids.
Side Effects
Common side effects of Ceprotin include allergic reactions, headache, dizziness, vomiting, and fever. Severe side effects may include bleeding complications, thrombosis, and hypersensitivity reactions.
