Catering (/ˈkeɪtərɪŋ/) is the business of providing food service at a remote site or a site such as a hotel, hospital, pub, aircraft, cruise ship, park, filming site or studio, entertainment site, or event venue.
Etymology
The term "catering" was in use in the world as early as the 14th century. It is derived from the older term "cater", which was used to refer to a person who provides food provisions, from the Middle English 'catour', itself derived from the Old French 'cater', meaning 'provider'.
