Cape honey bee
Cape Honey Bee (Apis mellifera capensis) is a southern African subspecies of the Western honey bee (Apis mellifera). It is primarily found in the Western Cape region of South Africa and is well known for its unique reproductive behaviors and the ability to lay diploid eggs via thelytokous parthenogenesis. This ability allows worker bees to produce female offspring without mating, a trait not commonly found in other honey bee subspecies.
