Infraorbital canal

Infraorbital canal is a significant anatomical structure in the maxilla, one of the facial bones. It is a part of the infraorbital rim and is closely related to the eye socket or orbit. The infraorbital artery and vein run alongside the infraorbital nerve within the canal. They supply blood to and drain blood from the lower eyelid, upper lip, and part of the nasal cavity.

Knowledge of the infraorbital canal's anatomy is crucial in several medical and dental procedures. For example, an infraorbital block, a type of local anesthesia, involves injecting anesthetic into the infraorbital canal to numb the area it supplies.
