Calimero
Calimero is an Italian/Japanese animated television series about a charming little black chicken with a half eggshell still on his head. The character was created by Nino Pagot, Toni Pagot, and Ignazio Colnaghi.
History
Calimero first appeared on July 14, 1963, in the Italian television show Carosello. The character quickly gained popularity and became the protagonist of his own series. The original series was produced by Rai, the Italian public broadcasting company, and Toei Animation in Japan.
Character
Calimero is distinctive for his black feathers and the half eggshell he wears on his head. He is often portrayed as a kind-hearted but misunderstood character who faces various challenges and adventures. His catchphrase, "It's an injustice, it is!", reflects his frequent encounters with unfair situations.
Series
The original Calimero series aired from 1972 to 1975. It was followed by several adaptations and revivals, including a 1992 series and a 2014 CGI-animated series. Each adaptation brought new stories and characters while maintaining the core elements of Calimero's character and adventures.
1972 Series
The 1972 series was a collaboration between Italian and Japanese creators. It consisted of 47 episodes and was known for its hand-drawn animation style.
1992 Series
The 1992 series introduced new characters and settings, expanding Calimero's world. This series was also a joint Italian-Japanese production and included 52 episodes.
2014 Series
The 2014 CGI-animated series brought Calimero into the modern era with updated animation techniques. This series was produced by Gaumont Animation and Studio Campedelli and included 104 episodes.
Merchandise
Calimero's popularity led to a wide range of merchandise, including toys, books, and clothing. The character has also been featured in various video games and comic strips.
Cultural Impact
Calimero has become an iconic character in both Italian and Japanese popular culture. The series has been translated into multiple languages and broadcast in numerous countries, making Calimero a beloved character worldwide.
