Café Rouge
Café Rouge is a restaurant chain that originated in the United Kingdom. It was founded in 1989 by Roger Myers and Karen Jones in Richmond, London. The chain is known for its Parisian-style bistro menu and red and cream decor, which is reminiscent of a typical French café.
History[edit]
Café Rouge was established in 1989 by Roger Myers and Karen Jones. The first location was in Richmond, London. The founders aimed to recreate the ambiance and culinary experience of a traditional French café in the heart of the UK. The chain quickly expanded, and by 1996, there were 27 Café Rouge restaurants across the country.
In 1996, the chain was acquired by the Pelican Group, which also owned other restaurant chains such as PizzaExpress and Dome. The Pelican Group was later renamed to Tragus Group in 2002. As of 2019, Café Rouge has over 70 locations across the UK.
Menu[edit]
The menu at Café Rouge features a variety of French dishes, including classics like Coq au Vin, Beef Bourguignon, and Croque Monsieur. The restaurant also offers a selection of French wines to complement their meals. In addition to their regular menu, Café Rouge also has a special menu for children and a breakfast menu.
Decor[edit]
The decor of Café Rouge is designed to emulate the look and feel of a traditional Parisian bistro. The interior is characterized by its red and cream color scheme, with wooden furniture and vintage French posters adorning the walls.
Reception[edit]
Café Rouge has received mixed reviews over the years. While some praise the chain for its authentic French cuisine and charming decor, others criticize it for its inconsistent service and quality of food. Despite this, Café Rouge remains a popular choice for those seeking a French dining experience in the UK.
