CLaCS

CLaCS (pronounced "clacks", /klæks/), an acronym for Cryo-Laser/Cryo-Sclerotherapy, is a medical procedure used primarily for the treatment of varicose veins and spider veins. The term is derived from the combination of the words "Cryo", referring to the use of extreme cold, and "Laser/Sclerotherapy", referring to the use of laser technology and a medical procedure known as sclerotherapy.

Etymology

The term "CLaCS" is an acronym that stands for Cryo-Laser/Cryo-Sclerotherapy. "Cryo" is derived from the Greek word "kryos", meaning cold, and is used in medical terminology to refer to treatments that use extreme cold. "Laser" is an acronym for Light Amplification by Stimulated Emission of Radiation, a technology that uses light to treat various medical conditions. "Sclerotherapy" is derived from the Greek words "skleros", meaning hard, and "therapeia", meaning healing, and is a medical procedure used to treat blood vessels or blood vessel malformations.

Procedure

The CLaCS procedure involves the use of a laser to damage the walls of the affected veins, causing them to collapse and eventually be reabsorbed by the body. This is followed by the application of a cryogenic (extremely cold) solution, which further damages the veins and aids in their removal. The procedure is minimally invasive and is usually performed on an outpatient basis.
