The Buffalo Bills are a professional American football team based in the Buffalo metropolitan area. They are members of the American Football Conference (AFC) East division in the National Football League (NFL). The team plays its home games at Highmark Stadium in Orchard Park, New York.

History

The Buffalo Bills were established in 1960 as a charter member of the American Football League (AFL). The team joined the NFL as part of the AFL-NFL merger in 1970. The Bills are the only NFL team that plays its home games in the state of New York, as the New York Giants and New York Jets play in East Rutherford, New Jersey.

Early Years

The team was founded by Ralph C. Wilson Jr., and the Bills quickly became a competitive team in the AFL, winning the AFL Championship in 1964 and 1965. The team was named after the famous frontiersman Buffalo Bill Cody.

The Super Bowl Era

The Bills are best known for their success in the early 1990s when they appeared in four consecutive Super Bowls from 1990 to 1993, although they lost each time. This period was marked by the leadership of head coach Marv Levy and the play of Hall of Fame quarterback Jim Kelly, running back Thurman Thomas, and wide receiver Andre Reed.

Team Colors and Mascot

The team's colors are royal blue, red, and white. The Bills' mascot is "Billy Buffalo," a blue American bison who entertains fans at every home game.

Stadium

The Bills have played at Highmark Stadium since 1973. The stadium, originally known as Rich Stadium, has undergone several renovations to improve the fan experience. It is located in Orchard Park, a suburb of Buffalo.
