Bryn Mawr is a census-designated place (CDP) located across Radnor Township in Delaware and Lower Merion Township in Montgomery counties in the U.S. state of Pennsylvania. It is located just west of Philadelphia along Lancaster Avenue (U.S. Route 30), which is part of the historic Philadelphia Main Line.
History[edit]
Bryn Mawr is named after an estate near Dolgellau in Wales that belonged to Rowland Ellis, a Quaker who emigrated in 1686 to escape religious persecution. The town was originally known as "Humphreysville" and was renamed in 1869 when the Pennsylvania Railroad established a station there.
Education[edit]
Bryn Mawr is home to several educational institutions, including Bryn Mawr College, a prestigious women's liberal arts college. The area is also served by the Lower Merion School District and the Radnor Township School District.
Healthcare[edit]
The community is served by Bryn Mawr Hospital, a major hospital that is part of the Main Line Health system. The hospital provides a wide range of medical services and is a key healthcare provider in the region.
Transportation[edit]
