Brooks and Hewitt Halls
Brooks and Hewitt Halls are two prominent residence halls located on the campus of Barnard College, a private women's liberal arts college affiliated with Columbia University in New York City. These halls are integral parts of the college's housing system, providing accommodation primarily for first-year students.
History
Brooks Hall, named after Millicent Carey McIntosh, who was the president of Barnard College from 1947 to 1962, was constructed in 1907. It is one of the oldest buildings on the Barnard campus. Hewitt Hall, named after A. Barton Hepburn, a benefactor of the college, was built in 1926. Both halls have undergone several renovations to modernize facilities and improve living conditions for students.
Architecture
Brooks Hall and Hewitt Hall are designed in the Collegiate Gothic architectural style, which is characterized by its pointed arches, detailed stonework, and large windows.
