Birthgasm

Birthgasm (pronunciation: /bɜːrθˈɡæzəm/), also known as orgasmic birth, is a term used to describe the intense physical pleasure, sometimes compared to an orgasm, that some women report experiencing during childbirth. The term is a portmanteau of "birth" and "orgasm".

Etymology

The term "birthgasm" was coined in the early 21st century, combining the words "birth" and "orgasm". The concept, however, has been discussed in various cultures and medical texts for centuries.

Concept

The concept of a birthgasm is based on the idea that the intense physical sensations of childbirth can, in some cases, be experienced as pleasurable or even orgasmic. This is thought to be due to the release of oxytocin, a hormone that is also released during sexual arousal and orgasm. Some women also report experiencing a sense of euphoria or a heightened state of consciousness during childbirth, which may contribute to the experience of a birthgasm.
