Batticaloa Teaching Hospital
Batticaloa Teaching Hospital is a government hospital located in Batticaloa, Sri Lanka. It is a tertiary care hospital and is one of the largest healthcare facilities in the country. The hospital is affiliated with the Faculty of Health Sciences of the Eastern University.
History
The Batticaloa Teaching Hospital was established in 1924 as a district hospital. It was upgraded to a base hospital in 1954 and to a teaching hospital in 1990. The hospital is currently managed by the Ministry of Health, Nutrition and Indigenous Medicine.
Facilities
The hospital has a bed strength of over 800 and provides a wide range of medical services. It has several specialized units including a cardiology unit, a nephrology unit, a neurology unit, and a pediatric unit. The hospital also has a radiology department, a pathology department, and a pharmacy.
Education
The Batticaloa Teaching Hospital serves as a teaching hospital for the Faculty of Health Sciences of the Eastern University. It provides clinical training for medical students, nursing students, and paramedical students.
