Barren Hill, Pennsylvania

Barren Hill, Pennsylvania is a small, unincorporated community located in the Whitemarsh Township, Montgomery County, in the U.S. state of Pennsylvania. It is situated approximately 15 miles northwest of Philadelphia, the state's largest city.

History

Barren Hill has a rich history dating back to the American Revolutionary War. The Battle of Barren Hill took place here in May 1778, when a contingent of the Continental Army led by Marquis de Lafayette successfully evaded capture by British forces. The area was originally settled by Welsh immigrants in the 17th century, and its name is believed to be derived from the Welsh word "bryn," meaning hill.

Barren Hill is located in the southeastern part of Pennsylvania, in the Philadelphia metropolitan area. It is characterized by rolling hills and a mix of residential, commercial, and undeveloped land. The community is served by the Colonial School District.
