BNN-27

From WikiMD's medical encyclopedia

BNN-27 is a synthetic neurosteroid, and a derivative of DHEA. It has been found to promote the survival and regeneration of neurons, and to increase the number of dendritic spines, in animal studies. BNN-27 has been found to bind to and activate the sigma-1 receptor, and this action is thought to be involved in its neuroprotective effects. It has also been found to inhibit the nuclear factor kappa B (NF-κB) pathway, which is involved in inflammation and cell death, and this action may also be involved in its neuroprotective effects.

Research

BNN-27 has been studied in animal models of neurodegenerative diseases, including Alzheimer's disease and Parkinson's disease. In these studies, it has been found to promote the survival and regeneration of neurons, and to increase the number of dendritic spines. BNN-27 has also been found to have anti-inflammatory effects, which may contribute to its neuroprotective effects.
