Aubrey de Grey (pronunciation: /ˈɔːbri də ˈɡreɪ/) is a British biomedical gerontologist and author of research on aging and life extension. He is the Chief Science Officer of the SENS Research Foundation and VP of New Technology Discovery at AgeX Therapeutics, Inc.
Etymology
The name 'Aubrey' is of Old German origin, meaning 'elf or magical being, power'. 'de Grey' is a locational surname of Norman origin, referring to the town of Graye in Calvados, Normandy.
Biography
Aubrey de Grey was born on 20 April 1963 in London, England. He received his BA in Computer Science from the University of Cambridge in 1985 and later earned his Ph.D. in Biology from the same institution in 2000.
Work
De Grey is known for his view that medical technology may enable human beings to live indefinitely. His research focuses on a damage repair approach to aging known as Strategies for Engineered Negligible Senescence (SENS), which aims to rejuvenate the human body and extend healthy lifespan.
