Ateneo de Manila University (AdMU), known colloquially as Ateneo, is a private Roman Catholic research university in the Philippines. It was established in 1859 by the Society of Jesus and is the third-oldest university in the Philippines. Ateneo offers elementary, secondary, undergraduate, and graduate programs in various fields such as the social sciences, natural sciences, engineering, management, education, and public health. History
Ateneo de Manila University began as a small school in Intramuros, Manila, called Escuela Municipal de Manila. It was nationalized by the Spanish government and later turned over to the Jesuits, becoming Ateneo Municipal de Manila. After several relocations and name changes, it settled in its current location in Loyola Heights, Quezon City, and was granted university status in 1959.
